Neil Morton is our Labour candidate for Chase ward in the Malvern Town Council by-election on Thursday 22nd May.

A number of local voters have asked for more information on Neil, so we asked Neil to give us a pen picture. He says ‘Brought upĀ in Worcestershire I lived most of my adult working life in Birmingham. Having recently retired after over 35 years in the Construction Industry I now enjoy a more relaxed pace of life in Malvern. I enjoy walking the hills with my wife and dogs and volunteer one day a week for St Richard’s Hospice. In my spare time I like listening to a wide range of music and playing the saxophone (badly).

I have a keen interest in issues affecting education and have over 12 years experience as a School Governor. Continuing cuts to school budgets are having a devastating effect on the life chances of our young people.

As a Building Surveyor working in the inner cities I have seen at first hand the critical impact that poor quality housing has on families physical and mental health. The health effects of poor housing disproportionately affect vulnerable people: older people living isolated lives and the young. Children living in poor housing or temporary accommodation are twice as likely to suffer bad health than children in good housing.

I will work hard on your behalf if elected as your Town Councillor’
