Samantha Charles is standing for Labour in Malvern Trinity division, which covers West Malvern and Dyson Perrins. She lives in Malvern and has recently retired from a 20+ year career as a community midwife in the NHS. She is a founding member of People in Motion, a local charity which supports displaced people in UK and across Europe and the Middle East, a home visitor for Refugees at Home and a member of Malvern Welcomes Refugees. She is proud that these activities have brought local people together and show what truly caring and inclusive people in Malvern are.
In her NHS role Samantha witnessed damaging Tory cuts to NHS services and social care, and is committed to saving these services. She says ‘Community Midwives and Health Visitors have been an integral part of the service to local families in the Children’s Centres which were introduced under the Labour government but under local Tory rule closed. Our Tory led County Council has cut £3 million from Children’s Centre funding and closed Evergreen and now we have a Community Hospital under threat. It’s time to ensure we have local representatives fighting for our services and ensuring funding for Malvern’s Children’s’ Services and NHS needs. I want the tax we pay to ensure our services remain in place.’
Samantha’s five pledges to local residents, if she is elected, are:
- To Bring Back Funding to our Children’s services.
- To Stop Cuts to Social Care.
- To Fight for the Future of Malvern Community Hospital.
- To Fight for Fairer Funding for Schools.
- To Ensure an Adequate Bus Timetable.
This election is really important for Malvern’s future. Samantha states ‘more cuts to services which the Tories are planning will drastically effect the town and you need someone in County Hall fighting for Malvern West and Dyson Perrins. I am the only candidate who can be that voice for Malvern.’
